Management consultancy is one of the freest professions. And management consulting is also one of the most important industries there is. Without consulting, no changes would be initiated in business and administration, no processes would be improved, no know-how would be transferred.

But what exactly does consulting mean?

Sometimes the term "consulting" is used to include - often valuable - services that are not actually management consulting. The BDU defines management consulting - based on suggestions from science and practice - as follows:

DEFINITION MANAGEMENT CONSULTING

Management consulting is a professional activity for the external and independent analysis and evaluation of problems of the client, the development of individual solutions as well as project-related support of the implementation, with the aim of creating values as well as promoting necessary changes at the client. It is based on a contractual basis between the client and the consulting firm.
